Momme (mm) is the weight of silk cloth, not a brand grade and not a thread count. It tells you how much silk is in a square of fabric. HZLISY uses three weights: 14 momme for scarves, 19 momme for a fuller scrunchie, and 22 momme for slim scrunchies and pillowcases.
What momme actually measures
In the silk trade, momme is mass per unit area. A higher number is a denser cloth. It does not by itself prove the fibre is mulberry silk, and it does not replace a laboratory test. Always read the fibre line on the product page: HZLISY pieces are listed as 100% mulberry silk at the momme shown.
How HZLISY uses each weight
- 14 momme — light square scarves (65 × 65 cm). Easy to tie at the neck, in the hair or on a bag.
- 19 momme — the 5 cm scrunchie. A bit of body for buns and overnight wear.
- 22 momme — the 2 cm scrunchie and the pillowcase. Denser cloth for daily hair ties and nightly use.
A 22 momme pillowcase is not “twice as good” as a 14 momme scarf. They are different jobs. If you want a sleep surface, buy 22 momme. If you want a scarf that knots easily, 14 momme is the point.
Momme is not 6A
6A is a mill grade for filament quality, used on our pillowcases. Momme is weight. Neither is an OEKO-TEX certificate. If your importer or marketplace needs a current test report, email info@hzlisy.com before you order.
