Why the full band

A 5 cm band is the scrunchie for thick, curly, coiling or very long hair. The extra width spreads the tension of the elastic across a wider strip of hair, so the tie grips without concentrating pressure in one narrow line. If a slim band gives you a headache by mid-afternoon, this is usually the fix.

The width also makes it a style object rather than just a fastener. A full scrunchie reads as deliberate, which is why a single one in a strong colour does most of the work in a simple outfit.

What 19 momme feels like

19 momme sits just under bedding weight. In a 5 cm band it gives the volume that makes a full scrunchie look like a full scrunchie, while staying soft enough to crush into a hair tie. Lighter silk at this width tends to collapse and look flat; heavier silk makes the band stiff.

Care

Hand wash cool with mild detergent, or a delicate cold cycle in a mesh bag. Squeeze, do not wring. Air dry in the shade. No bleach, no fabric softener. Iron on the reverse on the lowest silk setting. More in the silk care guide.
